Local Counsel

Sanders, O'Hanlon & Motley attorneys are uniquely qualified to act as your local counsel in the Federal and State courts of North Texas, particularly in Grayson and the surrounding counties. We have served as local counsel for businesses and law firms throughout the United States. We are often chosen as counsel due to our extensive trial preparation and in-court record, knowledge of the local courts and their staffs, and the walking-distance access to the Texas and federal courthouses located within a couple of blocks.

Our role as local counsel molds to the needs of our clients. In some cases, we assist lead counsel in preparing complex cases for trial. Other times we serve as lead counsel, managing litigation through trial and any appeal. From the most complex intellectual property litigation to more routine business disputes or injury claims, we can provide services needed to support a successful outcome.

While all our lawyers are licensed to appear in federal court, a couple have unusual experience in that venue.  Roger Sanders served as the US Magistrate Judge in the Sherman Division for 14 years.  He also serves on the Eastern District's Local Rules Advisory Committee, and has served on the Eastern District's Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel.

Sanders also has extensive experience in complex business litigation, both on the plaintiff and defense side. In 2002, he obtained a jury verdict of $55 million in a business fraud case in Marshall Federal District Court. He has worked with national law firms such as Susman Godfrey on behalf of clients in complex class action, commercial, and intellectual property litigation.

Michael Young had extensive experience defending mass-tort cases while practicing in Houston for over 12 years. He was lead counsel for Flexo Products in MDL 1553, In re: Silica Products Liability Litigation, an MDL proceeding consolidating approximately 10,000 silicosis claims into the Corpus Christi Federal District Court. He represented other respiratory protection manufacturers such as Pulmosan Safety Equipment and Norton Company in cases filed in venues such as Harris, Jefferson, and Nueces Counties. He also worked as part of a local counsel team for E.I. du Pont de Nemours in polybutylene plumbing litigation centered in Harris County.

It may be helpful to the role of local counsel that we have technology advantages we believe are unique to the local legal market, including sophisticated case management and document management software.

Finally, we are one of the few firms in the area willing to handle business disputes on a contingency fee basis. Under the appropriate circumstances, we will consider acting as local counsel on a contingency arrangement, sharing in the risk with the client and lead counsel.
