According to the Houston Chronicle, an increasing number of missing persons reports are related to dementia:
Alzheimer's patients often become lost in familiar settings, said Michelle Sonnier, family services manager for the Alzheimer's Association's local chapter.
“They start searching for something. They get disoriented or confused. They begin with a simple walk through the house, then end up out the front door.”
The article notes that over 340,000 Texans over age 65 suffer from dementia. Unfortunately, unscrupulous relatives or caregivers will all too often arrange for them to sign wills or power of attorney documents.
